An Extended Family Session with Deep Roots in Brandenburg

There’s something magical about extended family sessions... they’re joyful, a little chaotic in the best way, and full of those blink-and-you-miss-them moments that tell the story of a family’s bond.
That’s exactly what this shoot with the Straney family felt like. From the moment I arrived, there was laughter echoing across the property, hugs being shared between generations, and that easy comfort that only comes when family genuinely loves being together.

We spent the morning surrounded by open farmland and sunshine, and it didn’t take long to realize how special this group is. Every smile, every inside joke, every stolen glance between siblings and cousins spoke volumes about the deep connection they share. These are the kinds of sessions that make me love what I do — real people, real relationships, and real memories being made.
And in classic Meade County small-town fashion, I learned something new about them during our time together: the Straneys are the family behind Allen’s S&T Hardware here in Brandenburg, Kentucky — a staple local business that so many of us have visited countless times. Suddenly, the warmth, hospitality, and welcoming energy I felt from them all made perfect sense.

It’s always such an honor to photograph families who have helped shape the community they live in, and the Straneys embody that spirit perfectly. Whether they’re helping a neighbor at the store or laughing together during a photo session, it’s clear that family and connection are at the heart of everything they do.
