Mia’s session was the kind of session that reminds me why I love photographing seniors so much. From the moment I pulled up to our totally random “just go with it” spot and texted her mom like “Hey… we are heading somewhere a little weird but trust me…” I knew this one was going to be good.
And oh my gosh the laughter.
So. Much. Laughter.
Even when she was batting away mosquitos in November. Seriously why were there mosquitos out. Kentucky keeps me humble.
This was our very first-time meeting but Mia jumped right in like we had known each other forever. We talked about her plans after high school. She wants to be a cosmetic dermatologist and do things like Botox and fillers. We talked about her sister. We talked about tennis.
You ever meet someone who just looks good when they are genuinely smiling and laughing in a photo? That is absolutely Mia. I was watching Kelly Clarkson
one day and she was talking about Rachel McAdams and how she can pretty cry. Not everyone can do that. I have a feeling Mia can pretty cry too, but guess what.
I am not about to make her cry to test the theory.
And somewhere in the middle of all that I had this moment where I realized she gives off total Kristen Bell energy. The bright eyes. The sweet face. The calm but quietly hilarious vibe. She has this gentle confidence that photographs so well and once she activated she absolutely owned the camera.
We had her frolicking spinning walking laughing… you name it. At one point she pulled out her phone and snapped a selfie and I literally
crawled into wet grass to get the angle. Absolutely worth it.
We also had some uninvited guests. The mosquitos and a surprise pile of horse poop. But honestly it just added to the memory.
Some sessions are polished. Some are chaotic. Mia’s was perfectly chaotic in the best possible way.
Her mom was so sweet the whole time cheering her on and rolling with everything. You can always feel when a parent is relaxed and
trusting and it makes the whole session flow so much better.
And the best part.
We are already planning a spring session and you better believe tennis is coming with us. I cannot wait.

It is always such a privilege to photograph seniors who are right on the edge of their next chapter. They bring this spark with them. A mix of confidence, nerves, laughter, and all the possibilities ahead. Mia’s session was exactly that. From the unexpected laughs and November mosquitos to her bright personality and the way she fully owned every moment, it reminded me why I love documenting this season of life.
