I feel like sometimes we think we need a reason to have pictures taken.

An engagement. A wedding. A new baby. An anniversary. Something BIG.

But sometimes the reason can literally just be...

this is our life right now and I want pictures of it.

When Bailey filled out her questionnaire, she told me she and Aaron don't really do photo sessions. In fact, when I asked about their favorite picture together, her answer was their wedding photos.

And when I asked what she wanted most from this session?

A picture of her, her husband and their beloved horse, Lady.  That's it.

No huge production. No complicated plan.

Just them and a piece of their everyday life that means a whole lot to them.

Of Course Lady Had to Be There

Bailey and Aaron are outdoors people. Hunting, animals, being outside... that's their thing.

So putting them somewhere random just because it was a pretty place wouldn't have made nearly as much sense as photographing them with Lady.

And I LOVE sessions like this.

Bring me your horse.

Bring me your dogs.

Bring me to the family farm.

Take me somewhere that actually looks like your life.

Because someday Lady won't be standing in that field.

Someday this season won't look exactly like it does right now.

And that's when a picture that seemed like "just a picture" suddenly isn't just a picture anymore.

Also... There Were Chickens

I feel like this needs documented because Bailey checked YES when I asked if there would be chickens at the location.

She followed that up with:

"Yes haha but we can keep them locked up."

😂

For anyone new around here, I have a completely rational and definitely-not-dramatic fear of chickens, turkeys and basically most birds.

So thank you, Bailey and Aaron, for protecting your photographer from the chickens.

Lady and I were fine.

The chickens and I did not need to meet.

Take the Pictures Anyway

You don't have to wait for a milestone.

You don't have to have kids.

You don't have to be celebrating an anniversary.

And you definitely don't have to be a family that takes professional pictures every year.

Sometimes you just realize that you love this person, you love this animal, you love this weird little season of life you're in...

and you'd really like to have a picture of it.

That's enough of a reason for me.

Maybe that's my favorite thing about this session.

There wasn't a huge milestone or some big reason for pictures. Bailey and Aaron just wanted photos together, with Lady, in a place that looked like their real life.

And honestly, that's reason enough.

You don't have to wait for an anniversary, a baby, a birthday or some big life event to take the pictures.

Sometimes you're just a couple, doing life together, loving your animals and wanting to remember what this part of it looked like.

That's worth photographing too.

And for the record, Lady was perfect.

The chickens stayed put.

So I'd call the whole thing a success. 😂
