Some photo sessions are more than just pictures... they’re living pieces of family history. This  family was exactly that. Their beautiful little girl, Margaret, carries a name passed down from strong women on both sides of their family. It’s a name with legacy, and now these photos will be part of that story too.

One of the most meaningful parts of this session was the setting. The tall tree you see in these images wasn’t always towering and strong — when BJ was a little boy, it was just a small sapling. He was photographed by it as a child, and now, decades later, we recreated that moment with Margaret. It’s the kind of full-circle detail that makes a session deeply personal.

And let me tell you — this was one of the smiliest babies I’ve ever photographed. Margaret was full of joy the entire time and seemed to love the camera. From cozy snuggles to curious stares, every expression was pure happiness.

I also couldn’t get enough of the line of trees leading up their driveway! It was such a beautiful backdrop and gave us the

perfect mix of light, depth, and emotion. Doing sessions at home is always a special touch because the photos don’t just

capture who you are, but where your memories happen.

As we chatted through the shoot, I found out that Emily is best friends with Sarah, whose family I photographed earlier that same morning. That right there, is small-town magic at its finest. Emily also works at Allen’s Hardware in Brandenburg, and

to make the day even more full-circle, I discovered that BJ and I share the same last name.

(We’re not related — but I do know his sister!) It’s always fun to see how connected a tiny town can be.

This was one of those sessions that felt like more than just photos... it felt like documenting roots, history, and a

family’s love story, all in one beautiful afternoon.

It’s always such an honor to photograph families whose stories are deeply rooted in the place they call home. This session was the perfect example. From meaningful traditions and a tree that’s watched generations grow, to the joy and laughter of a baby’s first year, this family radiates love, history, and connection in every moment.
